How it ALL started...

This journey down the aisle had to start somewhere... so why not with the proposal.

It was November 16th, a random Tuesday.

I drove home in the rain after a long day at work. Richard had talked to me briefly, but seemed pre-occupied with a package that had arrived earlier that day. He rushed me off the phone and I didn't think anymore about it.

I got home and, with routine, I emptied my lunch bag and started to make my lunch. Richard wandered down to the kitchen and greeted me with a hello and a smooch. He started helping make my lunch and do my dishes. He was hovering, but I was enjoying the help.

He shared the exciting news that my seat cowl had finally arrived, something he had ordered weeks earlier. To bring that into context, we are in the process of re-doing my motorcycle. Richard likes to work on bikes and I like having the idea of having an original bike to putter around on. He asked if I wanted to come and put the cowl on my bike.

I said no.

He insisted it was MY motorcycle and I needed to work on it. He also rationalized my help by saying he enjoys my company in the garage.

I said no.

He danced around the kitchen spewing reasons why I had to get out to the garage. I argued all the reasons. I didn't want to venture into the COLD garage.

Finally he gathered my shoes and eagerly waited by the back door. I reluctantly joined him in the garage. I wasn't in the best mood, but he seemed even worse to wear as he showed me the NEW cowl on the work bench. His hands were shaking as he explained all the pieces he added. Finally he instructed me to take off the passenger seat on my bike (the thing the cowl was to replace). I fiddled with the clasp, wondering why he wasn't helping me get the stupid seat off my bike. It finally wriggled loose and I popped the seat off.

It took a second look. Underneath the seat sat MY ring. The very ring I admired while we were on the cruise.

Once the reality set in (in only took a few seconds) I turned to find Richard on one knee reaching for my hand. I did the standard 'head thrown back gasp' and waited to hear the words.

"Melanie, Will you Marry me?"

He knew my answer, but to make him sweat I asked 'Seriously?!' Which he had repeatedly argued against on EVER reality show. The guy is always down on one knee with a ring uttering the words 'Marry Me?' and the girl always asks... 'seriously?' this drives Richard NUTS!

He didn't wait for an actual answer, he stood up and hugged me. I whispered 'of course' and kissed him.

And finally we were (and are) engaged!

Woo!
